Evie Rapson is 18 years old and is currently studying music A level at St Mary’s college in Blackburn, where her first study is singing. She has competed in many local music festivals including Blackburn festival, where she was awarded with a prize for most promising young musician and Colne luther greenwood festival where she gained the prize for the highest mark out of all competitors in Pendle. Evie was also a member of the Arden Youth choir for four years, where she sang in concerts throughout Pendle and joined them on their tour of Paris in 2009. She currently sings with the Pendle youth choir and sang with them on their Belgium tour in 2005 and their Venice tour in 2009. As well as this Evie is actively involved in her college choir, where she sang the soprano solos in their performance of Handle’s Messiah at Stonyhurst college. Since January 2011 Evie, alongside accompanist Tom Gill has been has been appearing on BBC Radio Lancashire as the stations house band, performing a wide variety of music in a regular slot, as part of ‘The Sally Naden Show’. After completing her studies at St Mary’s college, Evie is intending to further her education at conservatoire after which she intends to pursue a career in music.
Joe Wickham – Clarinet
Sixteen year old clarinettist, Joe Wickham from Sabden, is a student at Clitheroe Royal Grammar School Sixth Form.
He began playing the clarinet in primary school, showed a keen interest in the instrument and soon progressed to orchestral playing with Pendle Youth Orchestra.
Since January 2007 Joe has attended the Junior Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM) in Manchester on Saturdays.
He studies clarinet with Neville Duckworth ARCM LTCL and Piano with Katie Riddle BMus (Hons) PG Dip RNCM.
In addition to tutoring, Joe played principle clarinet with the Lancashire Youth Symphony Orchestra, undertaking tours to both Italy and Germany,
and has won the Blackpool Festival (Fred Iliffe) prize twice and the festival trophy for the most accomplished instrumentalist.
Joe currently plays 1st clarinet with the JRNCM Chamber Orchestra and the prestigious National Youth Wind Orchestra of Great Britain.
Joe is presently working towards the DipABRSM on clarinet and, following completion of his ‘A’ levels, hopes to go on to study clarinet at the Royal Northern College of |Music Conservatoire in Manchester.
I worked for Educational Printing Services Ltd. and illustrated 11 books from 2005 – 2009. Recently I have been filling a regular DJ slot in central London and soon will be locally.
Over the last few years I have accompanied for Pendle Children’s choir and various other school concerts and shows. I was also Hired by The Alma Inn in Laneshawbridge to perform lounge piano in the restaurant area, and also played for private functions.
I was employed by Pendle council as part of a team to choose a selection of poems about Pendle and but them to music.
I am currently in the process of releasing two albums with two different music projects.
Cherry has had a passion for dancing since she started lessons as a 5 year old. Park High School allow her to supplement her training schedule with 2 afternoons a week of dancing studies with her teacher Helen Green.
Cherry has competed across Britain in competitions, winning hundreds of trophies. The most prestigious being The United Kingdom Alliance Competition in Blackpool’s Winter Garden. Cherry has won the ballet section 3 times whilst also being placed in the tap and modern sections. There are usually over a hundred competitors in each section.
Cherry trained weekly for 2 years as a junior associate of The Royal Ballet School in Leeds and similarly for 2 years with The York Scholars in York. She danced in English Youth Ballet’s Sleeping Beauty and Yorkshire Youth Ballet’s Nutcracker.
Cherry also dances within the community, at old peoples’homes, at school and for PYC. She danced with PYC on their Venice Tour.
Cherry has been offered a 3 year vocational dance course place at The Phil Winston Theatre Works and is auditioning at other ballet schools.
Now in year 11 at Park High, she plays flute in the school band and also studies piano. She is a valued member of PYC.
Samantha is in year 12 at Nelson and Colne College studying music with voice as her chosen instrument.
Samantha has sung since a child in her schools and for the community: at weddings, OAP centres, concerts and events. She sings annually at the outdoors Remembrance Day ceremony in her home village of Sabden.
Samantha was invited to sing for Prince Charles when he came to a Business in the Community evening in Manchester last autumn.
She wins praise and prizes at local festivals and won Nelson and Colne College’s Talent Competition held at the Ace Centre a few weeks ago.
Samantha has played euphonium with Burnley Junior Alliance Band since she was 10 years old and she often sings for them too.
She has been an ever present PYC member for more than 7 years and will audition at the main music colleges next year. She is a mezzo and studies with David Wilkinson.
